Kia Ora, my name is Kim.
I am the Centre Manager/Kaiako of Mercury Bay Preschool.
I graduated (as a mature student) in 2001 with a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) in early childhood education. Before I started my study, I was for many years a personal assistant for a management consultant who specialised in training senior management in areas such as customer service, communication, leadership and teamwork. This work and the reading of a fantastic book called Raving Fans, aligns with my personal philosophy: going above and beyond, exceeding expectations, acting with genuine positivity, pride and energy to deliver value that goes above and beyond the ordinary.
I have had over 19 years teaching and managing experience in a variety of early childhood centres both in Auckland and in the Gold Coast of Australia. Most of the centres I have been involved with have been larger centres however I am absolutely loving the uniqueness and the individuality that is provided by myself and the team at this intimate centre, Mercury Bay Preschool.
I am passionate about an Italian philosophy called Reggio Emilia, as they see the image of the child as competent and strong and being a learner and a teacher. I believe the way we view the child is extremely important as it impacts on how we interact with the children and the environment we provide for them.
At Mercury Bay Preschool, I oversee the curriculum, personnel, administration and teach alongside our other wonderful staff.

My passion outside of work is creating art, gardening, bush walks, kayaking and being in the outdoors. I have two children, and I love to spend time with my family and love living here in Whitianga.

Kia Ora, my name is Rata.
I am passionate about early childhood as I believe the first 7 years sets the foundation for the rest of life. I believe my role as a Kaiako is to foster and nurture each child's curiosities and to facilitate the learning rather than direct it. I love being a reliever Kaiako and giving children opportunities to learn and grow in a safe environment. Outside of work I love walking, fishing and spending time with friends and family.
*Rata is a reliever at Mercury Bay Preschool
